December 5, Dr.Cao, from Master of Tsinghua University,were invited by our School of Architecture and design. He brought a wonderful architectural lecture for the presence of nearly 50 teachers and students at CMBP C119.
He told us, Architecture is the history of stone art. Architecture Policy: stable, beautiful, useful. Architecture is used as shelter to create micro climate in origin. Then, people focus on more functions of architecture. Architecture should obey visual, auditory and thermal comfort. What’s more, sports and physiological rhythms should also be considered. In Mid century, there is always a step that not in same size with others, so that enemies would be stumble. Architecture takes into account human behavior. For example, if there are no chairs along the road, people may sit on two sides of the road.
There are many materials can be used in architecture. Such as British traditional wood structure. The Plasticity of concrete makes the form of construction very arbitrary. In Chicago style, steel frame structure is widely used, which have good anti-seismic ability.
He said, Architecture should also concern environment, ecology, resource and energy. It reflects environment, society, religion and technology.Image and architecture have connection. The design of one building can come from things in our life. For example, a building may looks like a cellphone or a beauty, even different kinds of fruits. There are lots of buildings that have special appearance. Some of them are welcomed and admired by people, while some of them are criticized. Survey shows that most people don’t like complex buildings, buildings imitate other famous buildings, wired-shape buildings and buildings with a ball on the top.
Finally, the lecture was happily concluded in the positive questions and communication between the teachers and students. Both the teacher and the students said they had learned a lot.
