On April 9th, we had the honor of inviting Pro. Nasrin Seraji who has AA diploma and is the members of FRIBA, founder and principal Atelier Seraji, Architects et Associes (asaa), and now teaching in Hong Kong University. She talked about that why architects draw. Her topic was drawing can see the world differently.
At the beginning, she mentioned that there are so many architectures around us and is hard to choose, but drawing can explain and describe. She mainly talked about three ideas and analysed three aspects for architects drawing, sketch, scenaros, and analytical thinking. She used others and her projects as examples to show the design concepts. She showed Michael Graves’ drawing to pointed that reality leaves a lot to the imagination. She showed Sydney Opera House and Guggenheim Museum’s sketch to show its narrative. She said drawing is not purpose for solving money, but giving advises, and maybe one of the them can give what we want. As for analytical thinking, she said drawing can clearly simply show the connect between buildings and environment.
After enjoying her attractive lecture, some audiences asked some questions. The lecture was useful for architecture students.
